BIOGRAPHY

Porat teaches Oboe at the Konservatorium Wien Privatuniversität and the Raanana Music Center. A sought after teacher, he taught at the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music, Tel-Aviv University. He is often invited to give masterclasses at prestigious institutions and be a jury member in competitions. Classes included the Guildhall School of Music in London, as well as music academies in South Korea, Germany, Slovenia, Montenegro, Croatia and the USA. As Principal Oboe of Ivan Fischer’s “Budapest Festival Orchestra” (2001-2009), and of Lorin Maazel’s “Filarmonica Arturo Toscanini” (2005-2006) he performed in all major venues around the world. Previously principal oboe of the “Gustav Mahler Jugend Orchester” and of the “Young Israel Philharmonic“, he played under the batons of Claudio Abbado, Seiji Ozawa, Zubin Mehta, Kurt Masur, Pierre Boulez and others. In the years 2009-2010 he was the General Manager of Israel’s leading chamber orchestra: the Tel-Aviv Soloists Ensemble.

Together with Prof. Maurice Bourgue Porat edited the New Edition of theMartinu Oboe Concerto (2008). This edition had won much acclaim, and was praised by “Das Orchester” Magazine. He also edited and laid out the new score and orchestral material of the concerto, and conducted the premiere at the IDRS conference in Oklahoma 2010, with soloist Nicholas Daniel.

Porat started his conducting training under the guidance of the late Mr. Sheldon Morgenstern in Geneva as well as at the Geneva Conservatory. Courses followed with Isaac Karabrtchevsky and renowned teacher Jorma Panula. Consequently, Mr. Porat was invited to attend the conducting program at the Aspen Festival. Performances include concerts with the Haifa Symphony Orchestra (Israel) and the “MusicaRIVA Festival” Orchestra (Italy), as well as direction of the Balkan Chamber-Academy at the BEMUS Festival in Belgrade and the Montenegro Symphony Wind Ensemble.

Winner of the Oboe-Competitions in Mannheim, Frankfurt and Karlsruhe and laureate of the International competitions in Bayreuth and Zürich, Porat has also been awarded the Israeli AICF, the German DAAD and the Swiss Federation FCS scholarships. B. Mus with distinction: Rubin Music Academy, Tel Aviv, Israel (Dudu Carmel); Artist’s and Soloist’s Diplomas with distinction: Karlsruhe, Germany (Prof. Thomas Indermühle). “Diplôme de Soliste”: Geneva, Switzerland (Prof. Maurice Bourgue).

Porat is active as soloist, chamber-music player, conductor, jury member and coach in renowned festivals and international competitions in Europe, Israel and the USA.
