Zefunot Culture awarded a scholarship to Natan Gur-Nelson in January 2020.

BIOGRAPHY

On April 2013 Matan Gur Nelson (b. 2006) started his piano studies at the Conservatory of Givatayim in the class of Inessa Friedman.

 

In 2016 he attended, for the first time, the National Piano Competition “Piano Forever” in Ashdod, where he won 2nd prize for the age category of 6-11 years old. 

 

In 2017, ten years old, Matan was accepted to Jerusalem Musical Centre program for young gifted pianists (director: the pianist Michal Tal). He also became part of a trio ensemble under the guidance of Prof. Asaf Zohar. With them he performed in the frame of a conference of chamber music ensembles at the Israel Conservatory, Tel Aviv. 

 

In 2018 Matan transferred to the Kfar Saba Music Conservatory to study piano under the guidance of Ms. Adela (Ada) Umansky. At the same year he attended the Creative Excellence Grants program (Keren Sharett) and was awarded the high honors grant for 2018-2019 and 2019-20.

 

On January 2019, Matan has participated in the Pnina Salzman National Piano Competition at the age category of 12-15. He won first prize (at the age of 12). Soon after he participated in the Winners Concert of this competition at the concert hall of Kfar Saba in front of a full house (800 people). 

 

As of September 2019 he takes part in a trio guided by the pianist Ariel Halevy in the frame of The Jerusalem Music Center and in collaboration with the Israeli Conservatory, Tel Aviv.  

 

Matan won third prize in the “Piano Forever” 2019 competition (age category of 12-15).  

 

At the beginning of January 2020, Matan won the Zefunot Culture grant to participate in Master Classes with the guidance of Prof. William Fong from the Royal Academy, London.

 

On February 2020, Matan performed at the Hebrew Writers Association - Hasofer House, Tel Aviv.
